A warm welcome to the website of the 2011 A.G.O. Region IX Convention! Hosted by the San
Francisco Chapter and our nearby collaborators in the Palo Alto/Peninsula Chapter, this convention is designed to inspire, inform, renew and refresh, as you gather with others who share a love for the organ and its music.
In June of 2011, the San Francisco Chapter will reach the landmark of 100 years of service advancing the cause of organ and choral music. What better way to help us celebrate than to come to San Francisco to join the Chapter's centennial festivities in our uniquely beautiful City-by-the-Bay and surrounding communities?
We are pleased to be offering online registration, and believe you will find it convenient, informative, and of course, green, Check out the abundance of recitalists, featured organs, workshops, choral and instrumental ensembles, worship services, commissioned and recently composed works, and "uniquely San Francisco" experiences. Perhaps you may even meet Emperor Norton! If you are a potential exhibitor or are thinking about putting an ad in the Program Book, the website will take you through the needed steps.
In the 27 years since the 1984 A.G.O. National Convention was held here, many new organs have been built and have subsequently attracted the interest and admiration of organists throughout the world. Most of them are among the 20 featured instruments.
The convention hotel is the newly-renovated Holiday Inn Golden Gateway, a 26-story high-rise where every hotel room offers breath-taking views of the City and San Francisco Bay. Located within walking distance of several of our venues, the hotel is between the neighborhoods of Nob Hill and Pacific Heights, with the historic California Street cable car line just steps away. We hope you will consider coming early and/or staying a day or two after the convention closes, as the special convention rate is available from June 29 - July 10. Our Hospitality Desk will be staffed by helpful, knowledgeable volunteers who enjoy helping you and your family find places of interest to visit in San Francisco, the Bay Area, the Wine Country, etc.
So, on behalf of the Steering Committee, we urge you to come for some great music, fascinating learning opportunities, great food and fellowship with friends and new acquaintances. Your colleagues in the greater San Francisco Bay Area look forward to having you join us for our 100th birthday celebration in 2011.
